With her shiny body and smooth curves, this £15-million superyacht is a real wealth symbol. The Adastra, unveiled today in China, is the new floating pleasure palace of billionaire businessman Anto Marden who commissioned its construction five years ago. Designed by Sussex-based yacht designer John Shuttleworth, Adastra Yacht Trimaran 4 is so high-tech, it can even be cotrolled remotely at the touch of an iPad... as long as you don't get any further away than 50 metres. Marden, who is based in Hong Kong and made his fortune in the shipping industry, will be able to sail the state-of-the-art boat between the two islands he already owns off the coast of Indonesia. Described as ‘one of the world's most amazing super yachts’, Adastra is 42.5 metres long, 16 metres wide and weighs 52 tons. ‘It takes the power trimaran concept further than has ever been attempted before,’ Mr Shuttleworth told Boat International. ‘The challenge of turning this concept into a viable luxury yacht has taken us to further research and to develop new thinking on stability and comfort at sea for this type of craft.’ It is the result of five years of planning and construction, and rivals anything owned by yacht-lover Roman Abramovich. The hull of the Adastra is built from glass and Kevlar and can house nine guests and six crewmen. The deck saloon has a panoramic view while the open cockpit has sofas on both sides. The open deck running aft also has a door that hinges out to create a bathing platform. Maximum speed reached by the yacht is 22.5 knots and her range is an astonishing 4000 nautical miles at 17 knots. That is enough for a trip from the UK to New York. Boat International magazine said Adastra Yacht Trimaran 4 'could spell the future for efficient long range cruising'. The yacht has an integrated ship monitoring system, and can even be controlled with an Apple iPad within a 50-metre range. Adastra is powered by one Caterpillar C18 engine of 1150hp at 2300 rpm and has 2 Yanmar 110hp @ 3200 rpm outrigger engines. Adastra's 16-metre beam features a saloon area on the main deck with a lounge area, dining table, and navigation station. The deck at the rear of the yacht has a sofa and bar area to port and a dining area to starboard. The main helm station, which has seating for two, is positioned in a raised pilot house situated between the rear deck and the saloon area and forms part of the cross beam structure. The Adastra is the latest in a long line of super yachts that compete to be the most high tech. Last year Chelsea Football Club owner Roman Abramovich bought a £300 million superyacht with two swimming pools, two helipads, a gym, hair salon, dancefloor and submarine. Eclipse has plenty of room to entertain friends, with 15 double bedroom cabins all equipped with their own luxury bathrooms and 6ft wide television screens. Parties on the 533ft yacht are guaranteed to stay private, as it’s fitted with an ‘anti-paparazzi shield’ that fires a laser beam of light at cameras to ruin photographs. The 20,000 sq ft interior also houses a sauna, steam bath and whirlpool to help guests wind down. For more than 40 years McConaghy has been at the cutting edge of race yacht construction; leading the way in research and application of new materials and technologies to build some of the strongest, lightest Ð and most successful Ð racing yachts ever launched. But that is only part the McConaghy success story. With manufacturing basis in both Australia and China, McConaghy now deploys its wealth of talent and its mastery of laminated construction techniques across a number of different divisions, extending the strong commercial platform that has allowed it to defy industry trends and continue to thrive. In the world of boating, there are yachts, super yachts, and then there's the Adastra, a massive, custom built masterpiece of engineering that looks more like a spacecraft from Star Wars than an actual vehicle. Adastra Yacht Trimaran 2. Unfortunately, a new class of marine transportation hasn't yet been coined, so for the time being the 140-foot will have to reside within the "super yacht" category, though to lump it in with any other water-faring ride does a bit of a disservice to its creators at John Shuttleworth Yacht Designs. The massive vessel's unique triple hull design — also known as a "trimaran" — was based on world record-breaking boats like the Ady Gil. But while previous tri-hulls were created with speed, fuel efficiency, and weight in mind, the Adastra mixes its braun with beauty. Featuring a luxurious interior, complete with dinning area, fancy sleeping spaces, and even a bathroom and shower, the brand new barge is both easy on the gas and the eyes. The ship features a master cabin as well as two guest cabins that will comfortably house a total of nine guests, crew quarters for up to six, and a plethora of deck space for taking in the sights. Designed and built over a span of five years, virtually every aspect of the Adastra Yacht Trimaran 2 construction keeps its weight to a minimum while still being eye-catching. Its hardwood cabinetry is crafted of fine, light-weight oak with honeycomb pockets, while important hardware like the hatch and ladders are made of ultra-strong carbon fiber which are just a fraction of the weight of steel components. The Adastra's top speed hovers around 22 knots, giving it considerable get-up-and-go for a personal luxury yacht, while its fuel-sipping, 1,150hp Caterpillar engine allows it to travel 4,000 miles in a single trip. If you're looking to get your hands on the Adastra, you're out of luck: There's just one of these remarkable vessels in the world, and it's already spoken for. Extensive structural analysis of all parts of the yacht has been carried out, initially by White Young and Green and later by ASTA. This was the only viable way to analyse a shape and structure as complex as this. Simulations of loadings from side slamming, wave impact, and torsional effects of the outrigger riding through waves, were all applied to the computer model. The superstructure is carbon fibre with Nomex honeycomb core, the hull is glass/kevlar foam sandwich and the interior is light weight oak cabinetry using honeycomb panels. To help reduce weight, virtually every aspect of the boat is custom built. This includes carbon fibre hatches, portlights, ladders and even hinges, which are all built specifically for the vessel. A SiMON_ integrated ships monitoring system monitors fuel, security, pump sensors, electrical, lights, etc. The vessel has a fully automated fuel management system which includes an Alfa Laval system for cleaning the fuel. All the vessel functions can be operated from an iPad. Palladium Technologies, based in Florida have developed a Superyacht app, that allows fulll controp of the vessel from anywhere on the yacht. The anchoring system is unique with three anchors all driven by carbon fibre drum winches run by hydraulics. The primary anchor is a custom 130kg Bruce style anchor that deploys out of the starboard wing. The second anchor is 80kg and deploys out of the bow with a carbon fibre arm. The third anchor is 60kg which deploys out of the port wing and will be used as a stern anchor. Adastra Yacht Trimaran 2

After 4 years in build by McConaghy boats in Zhuhai China, the fuel efficient 42.5 m Trimaran Adastra has been lanched into the Pearl River. Exterior detailing and visualisation by Orion Shuttleworth Design Ltd. Adastra Yacht Trimaran 1. Described by Boat International as "one of the world's most amazing super yachts, that could spell the future for efficient long range cruising", the striking 42.5m Trimaran Adastra has recently been launched in China for Hong Kong clients Anto and Elaine Marden. "Adastra" is the result of more than five years of design and discussion with the owners, to build a yacht that meets the needs of a very experienced ocean voyaging couple and their family, and to provide the level of comfort and style that would be expected in a yacht of this class and size. No effort has been spared in the challenge to produce a beautiful yacht that will have low fuel consumption and yet provide excellent sea keeping qualities and luxurious accommodation. "Adastra" takes the power trimaran concept further than has ever been attempted before, previous vessels like "Earthrace" and "Cable and Wireless" were stripped out record breaking machines. The challenge of turning this concept into a viable luxury yacht has led us to further research and to develop new thinking on stability and comfort at sea for this type of craft. Extensive tank testing and radio controlled model tests in waves have been carried out to analyse stability and performance. Adastra Yacht Trimaran 1. Outrigger height has been optimised for ease of motion at sea, and a new outrigger shape has been developed to increase stability in waves. We have undertaken a state of the art structural analysis of all the major components in the yacht in order to achieve the light weight required for very low fuel consumption. All this has resulted in the exceptional vessel that has recently been launched in China. Adastra's 16 metre beam creates a spacious saloon area on the main deck which offers superb views through a panoramic window and accommodates a lounge area, dining table and navigation station. A forward facing door through the saloon window gives easy access to a large sunbed on the foredeck. The aft deck has a sofa and bar area to port and a dining area to starboard, further aft of this there is space for a 4.9 metre tender and directly below is a garage which can store a 3.1 metre tender. The garage door has been designed to fold out and create a large dive platform. Extra space has been created below deck by slightly flaring the central hull just above the waterline. This area has been split into two sections with a full-width master cabin located aft with access from the deck saloon, and two further guest cabins, accommodation for the crew, and the galley located forward of the engine compartment. Adastra offers comfortable accommodation for nine guests and up to six crew members. The main helm station, which has seating for two, is positioned in a raised pilot house situated between the aft deck and the saloon area and forms part of the cross beam structure.
