Disney Cruise Line’s new Port Canaveral-bound ship, the Fantasy, reached a major milestone in its construction over the weekend. The final building block of the ship — a 265-ton portion of the ship’s bow — was installed at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. Building on the classic style of her sister ship, the Disney Dream, the Disney Fantasy™ is the regal fourth cruise liner in the expanding Disney Cruise Line fleet. Featuring 14 towering decks, a ship length of 1,115 feet and a maximum width of 125 feet, the 130,000-ton vessel includes 1,250 staterooms and has the capacity to comfortably accommodate 4,000 passengers—along with the over 1450 Cast and Crew Members who tend to the needs of every cruise Guest each and every day. Building on the classic style of the previous ships, the Disney Magic, the Disney Wonder and the Disney Dream, the Disney Fantasy is a majestic sailing vessel where early 20th-century design—recalling the golden age of cruising—meets state-of-the-art technology. As can be expected from Disney, the cruise liner was specially designed with families in mind, combining sleek style and convenient facilities with splashes of Disney magic. The 4,000-passenger Disney Fantasy is scheduled begin its maiden voyage on March 31, 2012. It will be based at Port Canaveral, offering alternating seven-night cruises to the Eastern and Western Caribbean, including stops at Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay. The new cruise ship for the U.S. cruise company Disney Cruise Line (Orlando), the Disney Fantasy, will leave MEYER WERFT’s covered building dock on Sunday, 8 January 2012. Around 11 a.m. the new ship will slowly be floated out of the covered hall, followed by a couple of tests and trials to be performed while the ship is in the harbour. When the ship is berthed alongside the yard’s pier the remaining work on board will be completed, for example the installation of the mast. The ship is scheduled to be conveyed to the North Sea two weeks later. The passage on the river Ems will be depending on the weather and tidal conditions. The Disney Fantasy has a length overall of 340 m, is 37.0 m wide and can operate at a speed of 23,5 knots. Delivery of the ship to the owner will take place as planned in Bremerhaven on 9 February 2012.
